Google AI Overviews on Irish Queries: What We're Seeing

Google’s AI Overviews have moved from experiment to fixture: the answer box that appears above the results for a growing range of Irish queries. We track them as part of our AI share of voice monitoring, and the patterns are consistent enough to share, without inventing percentages.

Where we see them most

Research and comparison queries, the questions with a synthesizable answer: best [category] in [town], how much does X cost, X vs Y, and the how-to questions. Navigational searches and pure transactions still go to the classic results, which matches the division described in our ChatGPT vs Google post.

What they cite

The cited sources share three traits: the answer stated early and clearly, structured data the engine can parse, and external validation in the form of reviews or authoritative mentions. That is the same trio from our getting cited guide, which is convenient: the playbook is one.

What moved the needle in our own work

The AI search visibility case study is the concrete evidence: AI Overviews presence went from 4 to 18 of 40 target queries in 90 days, driven by llms.txt, structured data, quotable answer-first pages, and programmatic comparison pages. Not by chasing the format, by fixing the foundations the format reads.

The practical habit

Track your presence monthly: for your ten highest-value queries, does an Overview appear, and are you in it? The tracker is the same AI share of voice spreadsheet, with one more column. The businesses doing this see the gaps while they are cheap to close, and the businesses that are not, find out from a competitor’s dashboard.
